The Start

(This was supposed to go up before Curley's wife.)
History lesson:
We know that the 1930s for most of the USA was a disaster. The Great Depression started with the Wall Street Crash and millions of people becoming unemployed. Shortly after followed the Dust Bowl and the farming land literally just blowing away.
The start of the novel 'Of Mice and Men' gives details of George and Lennie. A little further in you see that they have been dumped by the bus, miles from their destination and then when George mentions the work tickets, the reader grasps the fact they are looking for work.
The novel is based on the workers in America in the 1930s during The Great Depression and how the American Dream was an almost impossible dream for the workers where they wanted to get out of the hard labour and just live a nice life
Although now there isn't quite as much disaster going on all at the same time, there are still loads of people unemployed and other times where, in hot countries, there are droughts so bad that they cannot grow food.
